Lights, camera, action!

Tonight is the unveiling of our group project called Accessibility and Distance Education. It is a sim that focuses on making distance education more accessible to those with different abilities. My great group members and I worked really hard on it. I am very proud of the product!!

We did it!! See photo below.

Virtual Innovative Teaching and Technology Summit

Today, I attended a virtual talk as part of the Virtual Innovative Teaching and Technology Summit at SLEEC Island. The talk was by Esme Qunha called "You don't have to be a virtual world geek!" It was neat to see many other educators from all over the world.

The speaker used the coolest tool called a likert (see pic below). She used it as part of a group warm-up activity to see how many of the avis were educators.

Welcome Sign

As part of Session 6, we had to create a welcome sign. This is mine (see pic left)! It has special meaning to me because the image is a painting that my mother recently did. It is called Becoming.

Science Friday

This photo is of me (Nahala) attending a Science Friday talk in SL. A professor of chemistry at Texas A&M sent me the notification. She and I met at a beach bash at the Texas A&M campus in SL several weeks ago.

Helping a Classmate

A rewarding experience happened last week. One of my fellow classmates, Shep, needed to engage in a role play for class, but no scheduled events were happening at the time. So, I helped him find a rather "dashing" elf outfit and we danced at the Avillion sim. Other avis were around, but engaged in slow dances, so we hated to interrupt. Molokai joined us for a waltz or two...it was so funny!

Role-play in Tombstone

Molokai and I attended a Welcome Meeting in Tombstone. Basically, they went over a long list of rules in order to appropriately role-play in the sim. It was fun!! You have to be IC (in character) all the time. For a history buff like myself, this was very cool. Of course, she and I went shopping after the meeting to get her set up. We went to Shabby's in Winslow. Great outfits for great prices!

On a Mission

Our assignment for this week is to visit a sim that has role-play events. We had several places to chose from - Road to Deadwood (Western), Tombstone (Western), Elf Circle (Medieval Fantasy), Avilion (Medieval Fantasy), and
Theatrum Romanum (Ancient Rome). I chose to visit Tombstone (see pic right).

Besides a list of many rules to follow, Tombstone looks really fun. I am going to try to attend a Welcome Meeting tomorrow. I would like to learn a bit more before interacting in the role-play events.

While in life, I received a notice for VSTE's campfire chat about education reform. Annie Collier was the main speaker. She is the founder of 501c3 (nonprofit) Net Family News, Inc.

I invited Pule (see pic left) to join me (see pic right). It was great to meet other educators. I sent friend requests to several of the other attendants at the meeting.

Group Study...exploring, teleporting, and dancing!

We met to practice basic building, share cool stuff
or get help with the annotated list of resources. Basically, we teleported to a couple of places and then went dancing. Education money well spent!! I really enjoyed spending time with my classmates.

Dance Fever

Pulelehua (seen at right) and I went dancing at the Black Horse Country bar. I was a dancing fool. It was so much fun! Plus, Pulelehua gave me lots of great tips and resources. Thanks!

Texas A&M University in SL

Gig 'em Aggies! This photo is me (Nahala) standing in front of Sul Ross on the Texas A&M University campus in SL. The site is for faculty, staff, current students and former students.

I am having such a good time teleporting around SL and exploring new places.

My New Look

I made my way to the Help People Island today for FREEBIES! Similar to what happens in real life, I felt that I needed a new look. The photo shows what I came up with for now.

Study Group's First Meeting

Our study group met on Friday, 8/27 for about an hour. Many thanks to Molokai, Pulelehua, Shepard and Ameya for being there to help.

The purpose was to meet and help each other with SL and this week's homework assignment. My classmates were great! We teleported, danced, flew, and just "talked story". We even met a visitor from Texas at the CAVE sim. Very cool!

First Class

Words can't accurately describe my elation during our first class. My enthusiasm and excitement was off the charts. I was UBER happy! I had to try my hardest to keep my cool in front of my other classmates.

My first impressions were of amazement and wonder. I kept looking around at all my classmates and my surroundings in awe. It felt like I was succumbing to SL ADD. I wanted to walk, run and fly my way around the campus and explore.

One of my first thoughts was that I needed to see if anyone would be interested in forming a "SL Study Group". I am not a gaming person by nature, so I am worried about just "not getting it" as compared to my classmates. Good news - our study group met Friday, 8/27 to meet, greet and help each other.
